FIELD ACTIVITIES / PanOil Resources Update

FEBRUARY 6, 1998



CALGARY, ALBERTA--PanOil Resources announces the following
information regarding its PanOil Ramarro Crestar b-81-I well at
Orion in N.E. British Columbia. The well spudded on January 9,
1998, has drilled to projected total depth of 2039 meters, and has
been cased to the Slave Point Formation as a potential gas well.
The drilling rig was released as of February 3, 1998. A service
rig will be on location to test and complete the well during
February. A successful completion will prove up a number of
locations which are defined by geology and seismic.

The d-80-E well, located approximately 6 miles from b-81-I well in
N.E. B.C. remains in a suspended status until a rig can be
contracted to complete the well. PanOil is actively seeking a rig
and the appropriate horizontal drilling equipment to complete this
well.

Acquisition to close.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--DAKOTA RESOURCES LTD. is pleased to announce
that it has secured a commitment from The Bank of Montreal for a
capital loan of $300,000 for the acquisition of FASTWAY
EXPLORATION LTD. Dakota is very pleased with this achievement; an
established banking relationship is instrumental in realizing the
long-term business plan.

Secondarily, we are pleased to announce that we have partially
filled the 1,000,000 private placement, with current commitments
totaling $235,000 to date. Additionally, the company has received
commitments for the exercise of outstanding warrants to yield
proceeds of $185,850. The company contemplates closing the
Fastway acquisition on or before February 13, 1998.

Dakota is a junior company that is returning to its roots in the
oil and gas sector, specifically in service. Fastway represents
the first acquisition in this regard. The company has added a

announce that Dennis A. Sharp, P. Eng. has agreed to the join the
Board of Directors. In addition the Board ratified Mr. Sharp's
appointment as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at a meeting
on February 5, 1998. Dr. Rudi Siegert, the retiring Chairman of
United Tri-Star Resources Ltd. will remain on the Board. D.
Campbell Deacon, the retiring CEO will remain a Director and
President.

Mr. Sharp has many years experience in the public and private
energy sectors and most recently served as Chairman and CEO of CS
Resources Limited, a company founded by Mr. Sharp and recently
acquired by PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd.

Mr. Sharp is a director of several companies and organizations
including BC Research Inc. and the Calgary Philharmonic Society
and was a Governor and immediate past Chairman of the Canadian
Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). CAPP represents the
upstream producing sector of the Canadian petroleum industry and
its member companies produce more than 95 percent of Canada's
crude oil and natural gas.

Mr. Sharp's considerable experience and expertise in the oil and
gas industry will be of real benefit to United Tri-Star Resources
Ltd.
