Thanks, I never read Carnegie but I did read Stephen Covey and he espouses a similar technique - "seek first to understand". It takes a lot of practice but yields big dividends. Thanks for the article!

EDIT: I see you made a change since I first read your message.

We are all better people for having known LB. Hear Hear!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! And lift a glass to LB’s memory.

And to Rush, that lovable little fuzzball.

Remember, the political argument you start today is the Christmas present you don't have to buy tomorrow. HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Thanks for the excellent article. I had a similar experience with Carnegie’s book. Can only wish I’d given it more thought when I first read it.

Ever since I started posting online - and especially since joining Lindy’s board - I no longer have a need to “win” political arguments. This helped keep good relationships with many friends and extended family… which becomes an especially big thing once kids grow up and start having families of their own :)

Most of the time having a confrontational encounter is… at best, a mistake. One may be firm when needed - but always respectful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm fortunate with little to no availability to those supporting leftist views. Business nor personal life, I just don't attract them.

My own experience when exposed, my instinctive antenna goes up within the first minute of conversation. I find the large majority reek of character flaws. Misguided with limited capacity of rational thought. If there is some intelligence, (rare) they are always supporting their own twisted agenda of sorts. I find that common in the medical field and dare I say it, college educators.

99% of those holding positions of authority that still practice leftist views I avoid as if they're carriers of the Bubonic plague. Only conversation I care to have, their unconditional surrender.
