depends what you are looking for coming to florida. you are still pretty far north for warm weather in nov dec. you may get frost but not sure. you will also have winter storms (rain wind).

If you think further south north palm on the east , fort myers on the west you will experience about eight to ten degrees warmer weather. Further south you also seem to miss more the storms that come from the gulf. Usually Sarasota or Tampa is where most storms come across florida. imo further south it is dryer.

i am between Naples and fort myers. yesterday we were around 75 , and st augustine was about 60. i suggest you check weather at any location you look into.

we have another poster on si. steve rubin who bought last year in the fort myers area. he could tell you how they feel about spending winters here vs ca. i believe this is his second year. west coast is the gulf, east coast ocean. so if you like waves when on the beach you will not get them on the gulf..

flying in and out of florida. fort myers airport is minutes away. again a lot less congestion.

I don’t know much about Cocoa Beach. I think it may be worth your while to spend some time in Florida. Maybe even a season rental would make sense. Get to know the place. Many people like the Atlantic coast, others are crazy about the newer, neater towns on the West coast. The ocean breeze is nice and refreshing in the summer … that was something I didn’t know - we have northwestern exposure. During the summer, the predominant winds are from the southeast. Don’t worry about the Southern exposure - during summer months the sun is almost straight above us - does not shine inside. But, you get plenty of sun from the East and from the west. Actually, it’s not bad, it’s nice. Also, you’re looking at central Florida, so those things may be different.

Are you sure about your preference for the over 55 communities? We live in a condo where there is at least 1 person over 100 that I know of ( there were some more over the years) - but there are also many young families with kids. Kids are fun. True - some over 55 places have better support systems for very old folks. But I hope not to need them for some more years…. :)
