Hi Sun, Sorry to say no informed info on your condition.

That being said you are in my prayers and hopes for a speedy return to wellness.

Rest is a good elixir.

Those hives look horrible.

Bob

My first thought, as with all virus-type illnesses, is treat the symptoms.

Diphenhydramine HCL (Benadryl) for the hives, swelling, and itching. That should also help you sleep. You can take one pill every 4-hours according to the label.

I suspect you're already taking ibuprofen for the pain and fever.

Have you ever had Malaria?

The stress trigger may suggest an autoimmune disorder. I used to get cluster headaches when I was incredibly stressed and run down from my teens to 40's. I would not wish them on anyone. No pain I have ever had can match it, and that includes being basically skinned alive, breaking 23-bones one at a time, having an eye almost torn out of my head, and having lots of my joints ripped to pieces.

Sorry I was flippant.

1. It does sound like 2 separate things.
2. If you have fever, nausea, and can’t eat or drink anything, you may be dehydrated. If you aren’t drinking and urinating, or if you are having trouble breathing, or mental status changes, you need to go to the ER now. Do not drive yourself.
3. The respiratory infection could be covid or a long list of other possibilities. Get a covid test. If symptoms persist for 2 weeks, you need to see a doctor.
4. itching and hives are not usual signs of an infection. As you have already figured out, finding the cause of an allergy is sometimes difficult. Stress can do it. Obscure ingredients in foods, lotions, cleaning products can do it. The lip symptoms suggest a food allergy.

Let us know how you are doing.

You said you were tested for allergies but did they test for mammal meats? I don't think alpha gal syndrome shows up in a regular allergy test. It's a blood test.
It's fairly new but there's a tick bite that triggers the alpha gal syndrome in people. It flips a switch and makes you allergic to mammal meat. I got it and it took forever to figure it out. The reaction doesn't start until your body is digesting the meat so there's a big delay between when you ate and when the hives and other stuff starts. 2 of my doctors had never heard of it. Hope not. You get really tired of chicken, turkey and fish after a while.
The more I ate, the worse my reaction. When I first had it, if I had a regular meal, I just had some discomfort and some swelling. My daughter often doesn't eat everything so sometimes I'd finish her burger and then I'd break out in hives, have tightness in my chest etc. I was blaming soaps, detergent, everything until I finally figured it out.

Sun:
Steroids, no for two reasons, we aren't sure what u r reacting to yet
and save ur bullets, they lose efficacy fast
Cold pak yourself at major arteries, armpits, elbows, see tree cutting advice
also base of skull full spine
Cold paks for general inflammation always my go to, I can send links by pm if u like for sources-no affiliation just a huge user as a bodyworker/facialist
Uses
back pain and muscle pain anywhere, sinus headaches, migraines, herpes, for underground painful blemishes, ice cube wrapped in a paper towel when client first "feels" if coming, acne is an inflammatory disease, shingles any itchy pain-full condition and blood pressure spikes, hot flashes
For some conditions can be used with heat therapy for comfort and to confuse pain signals into "backing up"
Avoiding stress is possible to a degree but even when I'm upset emotionally cold therapy helps me literally cool off
I have not so very cold paks I put under my seizure dog when she's overheated which can bring on seizure or thinks she is....cold therapy can't hurt u assuming not cold enuff to give u freezer burn, I use paper towels over, damp and dry or a pillowcase, some are lower temp than others, but always have in my arsenal
I will pray as well
Pulling for you and thank you for all you contribute

Very intriguing and I'm sorry to hear you are going thru this.

I have a few questions:

1. past reactions have they been typically at the same time of the year?
2. Have you in the past logged your activities. Not easy I realize but are there patterns of activity preceding.....which could be as broad as geographic location....or as narrow as a dietary pattern for example. Or similar patterns of stress.......which could have resulted in subsequent altered sleep patterns, altered diets, etc.

So I do think you are on the right track when you say two issues with the larger issue being something more often dormant until your system is under stress.
There are many viruses that live dormant in our nervous system.....and only show up when our natural immune system is under attack.

Saying that.......I'm in the alternative health field......and our focus is often not adding to your system...but subtracting and giving the natural immune system opportunity to do what it is meant to do. Clearing the road blocks so to speak.
The skin is the garbage dump of the body.......when your system is functioning well......toxins etc. are appropriately eliminated out.......when under stress they often get stored in the skin........to be excreted at a later date. Jaundice in a new born, rashes, etc. so I'd say your skin reaction is related.

The allergic aspect I'm not really sure.....but your Doc may not be wrong when they comment on auto immune. To use a personal example....I contracted poison ivy (I'm in Canada) years ago.....bad enough to require steroid therapy. I recovered but if my system gets run down....I get what looks exactly like poison ivy all over again......summer winter ....makes no difference.....totally related to getting run down. My example is autoimmune related......so yours could be too.

The question is what was the original trigger/cause.

But my thought is focus less on trying to identify what the underlying issue is and focusing more on what you can do to ensure your immune system is functioning at its best. Clearly for most of the year you are able to combat......by your own words it is when you get run down that this has shown in the past. Like mentioned many viruses etc. live dormant.......they are not going away so keep them dormant.

Have you ever seen a Naturopath? and/or Accupuncture/Chinese medicine....and lastly one that also is trained in something called Applied Kinesiology.......(which is a way of asking the body questions and getting answers back)

Anyway I truly am sorry to hear what you are going thru and thought I 'd provide an alternative point of view.

I'm a Chiropractor (retired) for disclosure

Sun Tzu, I'm sorry I have no material ideas to toss your way but I do hope you get better and more importantly figure out what's going on. Lots of positive vibes for you from this quarter and as you can see from many others, too. HD

SunTzu - My wifes best friend had most of the symptoms that you described here this past weekend. I even showed my wife your post on Sunday. Her friend died Monday night of pneumonia. She was only 61 years old. Glad that you are recovering.

<<It stays dormant for a year until I am stressed and then pops up>>

That looks to be the key right there. I believe stress takes a lot more out us then generally recognised. What can be more stressful, when your stressed, is to get an illness?

So yes you have a reaction or a swelling under your skin. Could be a virus or a toxin.

Some people have such reactions from illnesses like shingles.

Shingles: Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention (healthline.com)

No I am not medical anything. I generally stay away from doctors unless in dire circumstances and run out of alternatives. Then I reluctantly see a doctor. -g-

Best of luck.

Your symptoms sound a bit like malaria. There are other mosquito born parasites with similar cycles. It has something to do with how long it takes for the parasite to mature in your body. Typically the parasites hide in your liver and migrate to your bloodstream when they want to hitch a ride on another mosquito.
