Respond to of 26758 Thanks for the birthday wishes, Kirk. Had dinner with all four of my sons last night. Not often we can all get together in one place! The best As for basketball, I grew up in the Philly suburbs (in a basketball family. My dad played on a PA state champ team in 1948) and was a huge Sixers fan (and Warriors before that when I was very young).Sadly, I remember watching the "Havlicek stole the ball" game and throwing something across the room after the play. Loved the Wilt/Russell matchups in the 1960s. In the fall of 1976, I had just returned from a year in Europe, was missing US sports, and I convinced my father to purchase a 25 game plan of Sixers home games. This was after the merger, but before Erving. While i was picking the games that I wanted one of the assistant coaches walked by with a big grin and told me to get all the tickets I could because it was going to be a great team. I nodded politely and agreed. Then when I got home a friend called and told me the Sixers had a press conference to announce they had acquired Julius Erving! The coach I talked to couldn't tell me, but was very excited. Even though I've lived in NY for most of the last 39 years, given the Philly-NY rivalry it's hard to switch loyalties. But I do enjoy watching this Nets team Durant is truly an amazing talent. I envy you having that spectacular Warriors team to watch all those years. The first time I watched Steph play on TV I recall thinking "Oh my, what a shooter!" Often the net barely moved when the ball went through the dead center of the hoop, I never thought at his size he would become as great an NBA player as he has become. Very easy to cheer for Seems like a good guy too.
