Layoffs can be healthy. Many companies grew a lot in recent years. They probably had some klinkers in hiring. But it still a great indicator!
Any confirmations?

<<Someone said KLA has hiring freeze?>>

A fellow from the Motley Fool board on AOL under the screen name "RonNTup" is a K-T employee. He consistently provides good insight to the goings on at KLA.

He indcated a hiring freeze was in practice at present and that the co. is hunkering down for the near term. He sounds generally upbeat and is looking for an exciting 99. No mention of layoffs (in either direction I believe).

I have encouraged him to post here on the KLA board but was turned off by the lack of activity on the KLAC board.

SFAM - Bad earnings announcement last night, .38 vs. First Call consensus of .42, and the usual warnings about near-term weakness and a flat '98. She'll be back to 23 in no time. :(

I sold about 1/3 at 30, but the rest looks like a 0 gain (or a "negative situation", in Alex Trebeck's lingo.). This one might have to go in the long-term portfolio. I'll hold it for a while for sure, as I think it's going to gap down and come back up short-term.
