Many argued FOMC should be abolished, for different reasons than the gold bugs. FOMC never surprises the market and acts contrary to what Fed funds futures indicate. Past economic data results in future economic model predictions and prices which make FOMC formally setting policy in accord with these models unnecessary. I guess human nature needs a scapegoat to blame for an economic disaster.

Right now futures indicate high probability of policy error, that the Fed will have to backtrack their raises or stop raising rates earlier than anticipated. Like 40% chance. I can only see that happening if stock market catches CoVid
