As for the rest, I'm not going to argue with you about whether the U.S. instigated and/or encouraged an uprising against the Moscow-friendly Ukrainian government of the time. If The Nation can't convince you, I sure as hell can't either.

None of which means I support Putin, or Trump, it's just that I don't buy the "America is always pure and good" line either ... "Russia interfered in our elections!!!" and all that, as if the CIA hasn't been interfering all over the world the past seventy years.

That is actually wrong. Both the US and Russia are under obligation to protect Ukraine. That was part of the treaty by which Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons. I imagine they regret that decision.
