It was a lot more free back in 1990s, even though Alan Greenspan was the Fed chair who started this commie Fed bullshit. Iceland jailed the bankers and crashed the stock market in 2008. They have a much higher gdp per capita than the US today and a stock market at 1/4 of 2007 high. US is more unbalanced and crash prone today than it was in 2008, the real payback for Fed market abuses still lies ahead. It is really simple. Fed thinks it can create high prices for stocks, stocks will go higher for some time. Eventually price discovery always wins, so it just sets up a bigger crisis. The exported (via USD as a reserve currency) dollars will come home when the privilege is abused, so what used to be a source of low inflation becomes a source of high inflation.
