ANT,
You are a rare MD to want to be a primary care provider. New MDs don't want to be (or can't afford to be) in Family Practice or Primary Care. All the ones I know want to be specialists and critical care interventionists. Nurse practitioners are becoming that critical primary care provider, especially in underserved urban and rural areas.

They are becoming so critical to that first line of defense that I expect more states to allow them to provide primary care without the direct oversight of an MD. I have two nieces who are NPs and a nephew who is a PA. Improved healthcare in the future will depend upon these non-MD health providers.

I went with a NP 7 or 8 years ago and I love the care I get. She does my annual physical, blood tests, flu shots, vaccines, diet, etc. etc. No need waste valuable MD expertise for routine primary care.

My healthcare conany is a large institution.

The company has several hospitals, a number of immediate care centers and prompt care centers (inside Walgreen's). The company employs a large number of MDs and other professionals. My healthcare provider is a nurse practitioner, if needed she will send me to see a specialist.
