>>>Larry, I agree 1000%. I've had AOL since there were 500k members and just cancelled. It is only a way to learn the internet, and once you learn you have no use for it. Larry and Robbie, perhaps a signal of when(if) AOL begins a retracement will be YHOO. I've always considered the two as very similar -- albeit in different niches within the same industry. As I understand it, AOL's subscription income merely covers the costs of operations. The income surplus is provided solely from ad revenue. In YHOO's case, all its income is derived from ad revenue, however its service costs far less to operate as an Internet search engine rather than an online service provider like AOL.

To me, YHOO appears to be the weaker of the two leaders, simply taking into account the companies' competitive positions. YHOO faces significant competition in the guise of XCIT, SEEK, and Alta Vista. It's service is easy to replicate by rivals. XCIT is also aligned with AOL, which gives YHOO's chief rival a significant edge.

I would imagine YHOO to be the first of the two to show symptoms of weakness.

I want to short AOL too! They have a very bad dial access and they're
arogant. I have wanted to short it since it was at $45. Now it is
close to $100. Can't wait any longer. Any strategies would be welcome.

It feels nice to be a survivor in ASND after these hellish 5 months. Loaded prematurely in august 1997 @ average 44. Regaining hope.....

This is a good thread discussing this subject :

I have shorted AOL for small, quick percentage gains during 1997. Earnings will be out 2/10. I have heard that the board has discussed a stock split. I hope that there will be a last run to 110 so I can short it more effectively this time. Fundamentals should catch up with this stock soon.
