You always want, on any committee I know of, more views, disparate in nature, not fewer. If the objective were to find the truth. Indeed, you do. It's too bad the R's did not agree to a commission. People of any persuasion can ask good questions. If anything, zealots would me more rather than less likely to ask aggressive questions than someone who was indifferent.
