Not so anymore, IE 4.0 will work with Win 3.x, see microsoft.com A new system would only be advantageous if you have a fast internet connection (56 kbs or better) and get a good amount of RAM, say 32 megs or so. Personaly I like the new interface, but it is slow compared to the old one. Another option to speed it up would be to turn off your "show Images" under options. The new "under $1000.00" units usually only come with a 33.6 modem and 8 megs of ram, so add another 300.00 - 400.00 or so to enhance them.
