I just finished going through the last two days of postings. Someone - Doug maybe? indicated that QCOM was anticipating "flat" 2nd Q 98 earnings relative to the same Q last year and that eps would be .20something from .50. Sorry if I misread or misunderstood but could someone clarify this. If this is an accurate prediction what is the source? The Q's Feb 5th update refers only to a reduction in earnings and margin from "the prior quarter", i.e., Q1 98.

FWIW, I figure management deceived us by a deliberate act of omission. In their report of Q1 98 results they said this and only this on the direct impact of Korea, "Demand for our ASIC products in South Korea continues to be positive and we remain confident in the long-term prospects for CDMA in the region." At the time I wondered about their wording and what they were implying about the short to medium term. I only wish I had acted on the "niggle" that gave me. Seems to me they knew more than they told. Perhaps not a deal breaker on management integrity but definitely a cautionary note.

Speaking of the long term and looking on the bright side, unlike some of the brighter lights on this thread, I had personally been having difficulty interpreting all the stuff on the european standards talks and votes and it was nice to have the "central role of the Company's technology in third generation (3G) systems as indicated by the selection of W-CDMA by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)" explicitly confirmed from the horses mouth itself.

What a ride hey folks? I've been a buy and hold long for 18 months now and am essentially no better off for it. I hope this turns out to be more than just an exercise in character building. Best to all.
