There is a 13% chance of a surprise rate hike tomorrow, weekly op-ex. That would be chaos.

There is a 30% chance of a surprise rate hike by the end of February according to Fed Funds Futures.

The high inflation numbers are triggering calls for a Volker-ish response.

It's so ridic that people blame inflation on the executive branch. Other than Nixon and Ford, I can't think of anyone in the Oval office who has been responsible for inflation since the 70's. It's the Fed, not the person in the big chair, who holds sway over the business cycle. They have the power to take away the punch bowl at any time.

Bullard says the Fed has to ‘get going’ on the taper, may need to get aggressive to stop inflation

PUBLISHED THU, AUG 26 2021 9:25 AM EDT UPDATED THU, AUG 26 2021 9:44 AM EDT

  • St. Louis Fed President James Bullard says the central bank should have its tapering process finished by the end of March 2022.
  • At that point, we’ll see “whether inflation has moderated,” he said. “If it hasn’t moderated, we’re going to have to be more aggressive to contain inflation.”
  • Bullard, who spoke from the Fed’s annual Jackson Hole conference, said there’s some evidence the Fed’s bond-buying blitz has started to create bubbles in the U.S. housing market.

I don't think you will see all time highs until this Fed tightening cycle is over. There will be a rip if it's only .25 now.

Until the Fed tightening cycle is over, volatility will be the game. IMHO
