In the dark ages when I designed semiconductors for optical communication that helped build the internet and other devices that needed optical isolation, we were required to have second sources for any and all parts that would be used by the military.

At one point we needed a "GRIN Rod" to focus light from a fiber onto our detectors and they were only made in Japan... so they let the rule slide, I think by buying years of inventory.

Trump was 100% correct to lower taxes on corporations (and make up for the lost revenue by eliminating my SALT deductions to raise taxes on the wealthy in high tax, blue states) in order to make the US more attractive for manufacturing. His fault was not going far enough and lowering it to zero and perhaps using a sales tax on revenue (and 2x on imported revenue) to fund health care (and replace Obamacare which he lied about having a lower cost replacement for.) Paying for health care with a revenue tax (sales tax for those of us with that already) would remove that cost from companies hiring workers too. But that sort of "mixed party thinking" doesn't fly in the corrupt garbage we have in Washington running things. Everyone has to line up on different sides of issues and pee at each other.

Our inability to compromise and work together with ideas like mine above for health care and job creation will be the downfall of the US, not commies on the left or insurgents on the right.
