off topic:

>>Affirmative Action - Give jobs to minority despite the fact others MAY be more deserving.<<

hugh, affirmative action does not say to hire minorities that are less qualified. it says to hire the minority in cases where there are two or more employees who are EQUALLY qualified. so, when applied correctly, it renders your complaint false. do you not understand affirmative action? if you do then why do you make a complaint that isn't even relevant?

i've observed two things as anecdotes. one, minorities are not taking over the business world based on these programs. in fact, it is my experience that these programs aren't really taken seriously - even though they include "advertising" in their want adds. it is kind of like putting tqm banners all over your factory when nobody has a clue what it is and nobody cares. it's just the "in" thing to do and serves nicely as evidence when dragged into court.

second, hr depts don't always apply the concept the way it was intended. for example, a man applies for a job and isn't even interviewed even though he has equal qualifications b/c the job is earmarked for a "woman" - or so says hr when asked why he didn't even get considered. this isn't affirmative action. it is merely a lame excuse for wanting to put a favorite in a certain position who happens to be a woman.

it has been said that there is a simple solution to every complex problem - and it is always wrong.

well, there are no easy answers. is it right to cut someone's legs off, decide your sorry but continue to blame the no legged person b/c he needs extra care (that you have to pay for) in order to contribute to society? think, ponder and think this through.

btw, the worst poverty in the world is poverty of the mind, ie, the attitude where people don't want to work or are prone to violence. monetary poverty is much more easily dealt with.

if you think it through then you'll realize that these are complex issues. i do assume, and i think rightfully so, that real solutions are what you are after instead of a soap box to complain.

btw, before i get pidgeon (sp??) holed by small minds that can't deal with the complexities of life, i do not belong to nor agree with any on particular organization - political or otherwise. i am a free agent thinker - the most dangerous kind.

ps - more ignorant than grim? dude, that was a wee bit harsh - even for sridhar ;-)
