why would he be concerned for the safety of Russia from a loose alliance of 21 disparate nations who together lack even the military potential of Turkey or Isrrael?

1812, 1856, WWI, Barbarossa and more. That's enough to be going on with. Not to mention the vicious Russia Russia Russia mass hysteria psychosis constantly expressed by many in USA for decades even though Gorby took over and the evil USSR threat evaporated followed by dissolution in 1989. But the hysteria continued unabated.

Threats have continued since Obama ramped it up with Joe10% and Hunter taking their cut, with harpie Nuland buying and backing the Kiev coup, and the plan to oust Russia from Sevastopol was sensibly stymied.by returning Crimea to Russia.

Now Russia has decided to stop the onslaught. Begging USA/NATO to stop didn't work. So here we go again. With Putin rattling his nukes to ensure MAD NATO warmongers get serious.

He desires above all else the reconstruction of an empire that would be a validation of his own - and Russia's - glory.

That's maybe good mind-reading, but mind-reading is notoriously wrong. Judge more by what he says, writes and does. He wrote a historical essay last year giving his thoughts. There are also 22 years of him in charge to see what he actually does. Unlike Dementia Joe10%, Putin talks extemporaneously and answers questions for hours. No need for mind reading. He speaks much of his mind. Joe10% can barely read his lines. Forget about questions.

After nearly quarter of a century there has been negligible change in Russia's map. It's true there was a name change and flag change in Crimea. Which just put it back where it was for hundreds of years

At that blitzkrieg rate, Putin will have to live 1000 years to get much of the old USSR back, let alone the Warsaw pact bloc. .

Judging by actions rather than mind reading, Dementia Joe10%, Hunter, Boris and the NATO collective are much more dangerous than Vladimir.

Even judging by assassinations, Vladimir is lethal but not phenomenal = Obama got a good score with drones, got Osama in Pakistan, Pompeo wanted to drone Assange, Trump got Soleimani, etc. Putin mostly sticks to domestic opposition, but Arkancide is a word you likely know. Epstein's health is not good.

Thanks for your kind words. I’m just trying to tell what I see and what I think. That’s the best thing about writing - it helps clear one’s own thinking. Also, I decided many years ago to just share what I want to say - and not try to change anyone’s mind. So, I’m not afraid of different views - and I still enjoy the conversation.

People often think of Putin as some evil genius. I don’t see any mystery around that person. Again, if one thinks of the Russians as real people, living in a real country - many things fall into place. Putin is popular because he’s able to serve as the common denominator for several different political movements and blocks. Also, most of the population seems to feel that he’s working with their well-being in mind.

I fully believe that if he were to die suddenly - their next president would be doing essentially the same thing. Obviously a smart, talented guy - but not irreplaceable - and not a monarch. Speaking of Monarchs - over the centuries, the Russians killed - or otherwise got rid of, rightly or wrongly - of a number of monarchs or other absolute autocrats. That never stopped them. There are credibly sounding stories about Joe Stalin having been helped along in his departure by some of his top apparatchicks.

I’ll link below an article by “Spengler” (David P. Goldman). Over the years, he wrote a few articles in which he meets the ghost of the great Cardinal de Richelieu - and “his Eminence” comments on todays political problems. This is the latest installation.

(The Cardinal, btw, was possible the greatest geopolitical thinker who ever lived. He was a big player in the 30 year war (1618-48) - and, while being Catholic, held the interests of France above all. He conducted the war in such a way that the emerging power of that time - Germany - would come out weaker upon its completion. The result would be that France would emerge as the dominant power. And so it happened - and for the next ~200 years France remained the greatest power in Europe. Brutal guy, really).

People in the west miss the cold war too much to ever let Russia off the hook.

The west would hate Russia if it was capitalist, communist or Catholic, maybe return to Czarist times and let Cossacks run the place.
