How so? My 'Skip' choices would only apply to me. All messages would continue to appear normally. If I find the train of thought to be too broken up because I'm seeing only 1/2 a conversation, I'll probably be hitting 'Previous' a lot of times or I'll just take the 'Skip' checkbox off the individual until I'm through reading their comments.

The threads are fragmented anyway because I don't have the chance to keep up and just skip many posts in most threads that I am following. But I don't think that the ignore a poster feature is really a solution to information overload. It just allows to bypass the occasional flamewar or a protracted discussion in a thread.
What I would like to have is a working ranking system that allows me to only read the most important posts in the threads for which I don't have the time to read them completely.
