We rarely had people ever out sick or otherwise. We didn't have paid sick days, so people didn't miss work.

We used to pay our vacation pay in one lump sum on the 1st week of July. People could just take days off or vacation days whenever. Most of our warehouse workers did not take vacations. They just took the cash and booked the extra 1-3 weeks of work they could do. It was like getting paid 55-weeks a year for some.

We were a medium size business, so we could do things a bit different than huge businesses. For example, for decades we let people work overtime when they wanted to. Many warehouse workers worked 50-hours a week for decades. We also gave everyone 2.5% raises every 6-months. If they were low on the wage scale, it was 5% every 6-months. Salary staff got bonuses and raises once a year. Commissioned people got their checks quarterly (they were also paid a salary).
