My one job sucked on raises. I had to fight hard for every penny I gave someone. It was also luck of the draw as to timing. It seemed they would set the max cap when times were good. Then they would fight you even trying to get half that for a top employee as business soured. By the time they were doing salary raises, it was always a bad time and for years, we got nothing or way below inflation. The luckiest employees had their annual reviews right after Xmas. We had just had great profits and the boss was flush with money. The poor saps that came up in August -October were lucky to get anything. I almost got fired a few times arguing to give someone a raise.
