Still learning about OSCE - just found out that both US and Russia are in it as well! We are all Europeans now?

Technically, Russia - at least initially - could say they were doing the job of the OSCE outlined in the Minsk Agreements -disarming the Azov battalion who were shelling the Russian speaking eastern Ukrainians. un.org

Gets pretty confusing when you have international organizations that only pay lip service to something that they supposedly agree on. That's why I always thought the UN was useless for enforcement resolutions - and maybe less than worthless if it gets a lot of people killed for a false reason (like Iraq).

Russia's aggression is not to be condoned, but let there be no mistake: this is a situation where there are no good guys. Ukraine is utterly corrupt.

The good news is that we may have found a situation where we can be happy that both sides CAN lose. Russia is not winning against a third-rate tinpot kleptocracy and is getting a serious bloody nose, and Ukraine will probably lose a good quarter of its land mass in a negotiated settlement and be locked out of NATO and the EU.

There were staff talks between the French and British in 1905 when the alliance was just starting against the Germans.

The British asked the French how many men they thought they would need. The French replied "Send us one British Sargent and we will see that he gets killed."
