Read Replies (5) | Respond to of 219150 to preface my response... u.s. media bias/propaganda about 'russia' has been so severe/inaccurate my entire life that i am very skeptical about anything 'reported' about 'russia'. this is not to say that putin/'russia' is to be 'trusted' to act in the best interests of the u.s. or western capitalism. it is to say, however, that it is very hard to understand putin/'russia' perspective, while living in the u.s.. i imagine the scandinavian perspective is much more accurate than the u.s. perspective. just a guess. --That [No diplomacy] can be said about Russia too in relation to Ukraine or Georgia.-- there are reports, posted on this thread, that indicate putin/russia acted 'diplomatically' with ukraine for many years but that ukraine did not follow diplomatic agreements, especially in relation to attacks on the pro-russia border states. this seems to be the russian perspective. --At least Chris Hedges gets to talk about it. Would he be able to express himself in Russia like this?-- hedges, a pulitzer winner, has been contained in the u.s. margin. rhymes with: 'if a tree falls in the forest... does it make a sound? free-speech in the u.s. is not what it used to be. --Just because one empire - Anglo-American/NATO - continues to be an empire - does not justify that Russia can get back to being an empire.-- that seems to be the u.s./nato perspective. the russian view seems to be that russia is protecting itself, similarly to what the u.s. would do (did during the cuban missle crisis) in a similar situation and this has nothing to do with empire building. --Russia is already the largest country in the world.-- which 'largest country in the world' metric are you referring to? --If it does not consider it safe enough now, how would it be safer with Ukraine added to it? Its boundaries with potential adversaries are only going to expand.-- again, there are various posts on this thread about how putin/russia's ukraine response is not about expanding russia. isn't this china's understanding, as well?
