As for the week, well the pendulum swung back with biotechs strongly outperforming (3.8%,4.4%) the broader market (0.6%), although with a YTD performance of -9.9%,-16.4%, the sector still has a pretty big hole to fill for the year.

The contest portfolios on the whole didn’t match the overall sector performance with only a 0.4% gain for the week in the portfolio median. In terms of the followed stocks there was one big winner: CLVS +56% due to announcing some good phase 3 numbers for its ovarian cancer drug, good news for one portfolio; and one big looser, AKBA, -72% after the FDA rejected its chronic kidney disease induced anemia drug, bad news for two portfolios.

JACK HARTMANN was the top performer for the week, +6%, which allowed him to capture first in the YTD standings and in the BLACK (+3.6%) for the year (sounds of crowds cheering). Actually the relative order of 8 of the top 10 (YTD) portfolios are unchanged from last week. The big shift being my aka TECHNETIUM’s drop from first to 6th (that darn AKBA). Welcome TAMBORELLI, you made it to the top ten.
