Are you talking about Euill Gibbons? Not sure that I spell that correctly.

What amazes me about humankind is that many brave souls probably lost their lives to bring us the current level of information about what is edible and what is not. Perhaps they did not and only observed what the mammals gnawed on. Forget the bugs, they eat everything with seeming impunity.

I am very, very careful about the wild foods that I eat, but some are quite good. Local mycological societies are a good source of hands on experience, and they will not let you go wrong. I hung out at a stable in northern California where wild "button" mushrooms grew and they were quite flavorful. Used to make omlets with them in the mornings. The lady who ran the stable was an old German who was an excellent horsewoman and mushroomer.

Better safe than sorry, however!!

I am not aware of any cumulative toxicity from mushrooms, most is quite acute and devastating. Could be some problem with the granola, however!
