I think you are spot on.

Reviewing the article by Heinz Blasnik (posted by C2) it becomes obvious that what today is Ukraine was slapped together by the emperors - and mostly, by communists (Lenin, Stalin and later Khrushchev) - for a variety of administrative or political reasons. One of them, apparently, was adding to Ukraine more Russian territories in order to “dilute” the nationalistic element.

Message 33776385

All this was done on the assumption that Ukraine will be “owned” by Russia in perpetuity. That didn’t happen.

Quite possibly, many (or most?) Ukrainians would actually prefer to get rid of some of the Russian provinces.

This was a problem ever since independence - and it got worse since the Maidan revolution. Ethnic tensions turned into an ongoing civil war.

Today, Ukrainians are forced to suffer through the pain of war - because of politicians egos… and impractical, dumb headed “principles” and moronic big ideas. They stand to gain nothing, one way or the other.

It is obvious that short of a genocide, Donbas and Lugansk areas will have to quit Ukraine. Even if it takes many more years.
