It sounds like you may have run into a former fast food employee who found a desk job during the pandemic.

In fast food, they have pictures of the things being ordered on the cash registers so the employees don't have to do any math. That's been the case for about 40-years.

Just had something kind of like that here. Person went to the local grocery store and bought $2.50 purchase. Tried to pay with quarters and clerk wouldn't accept it. We all figured she couldn't do the math.
Whipsawing around here. SOX telling a different story than the FANGM. RSP/SPX no help.
Looks like my indicator is going to be negated on bond yields.

I was an engineer with a successful career in all things computer and electronics, and yet I cannot do arithmetic. Arithmetic is just something memorized. When I got my first calculator in the 1970s it was a game changer, I could setup my formulas fine, but to come up with the final answer I was counting on my fingers or chanting through various rhyming schticks to come up with the actual final answer. It was slow. The calculator brought my counting up closer to my thinking.

< It's disturbing, alright...>

200 years ago, most American adult males could build their own home, with a few simple tools.

50 years ago, they could do major repairs on their cars.

25 years ago, we could read maps. Now, nobody can get from Point A to Point B without our smartphones.

Today, we are raising a generation of children without the ability to do basic math.

The movie Idiocracy was prophecy, not fiction.

Kimberly,

I live in Fl., and CRT or not, That story is fairly common here, other than in the exclusive school districts.
