I don’t know why it seems so hard to understand that Ukraine is not our country. The more we've "helped" them the worse off they get.

First, I don't think the Russians want all of Ukraine, just Crimea and the Donbas. Easy parts to hold. Second, don't bet that the Russians won't retaliate if "sophisticated" , read western weapons show up in your insurgency. Remember the "Red Brigades??" The Russians capture a few of your weapons, sneak into Europe and down a couple of airliners, what then?? This ain't Astan, it''s more a existential threat to Russia then that was.
