That may be the future, it's tough to say. I think it will go something like this. They settle on Dombass and the regions connecting them to Crimea. Time passes, the international press loses interest and the American press loses interest with the election coming up. Then someone shoots another Russian warship in the harbor - bam!

They respond by bombing Kyiv again. Maybe bomb a few other areas.

Rinse repeat....over and over!

Sometimes they use missiles, sometimes they use cyber, bombs or drones to drop bombs etc.

But peace is never really achieved.

At some point, Russia moves on to take Odessa, then Moldova (after all, those Russians in Transnistria need saving too).

With the stolen wealth, Russia looks for new countries to invade.

A few folks a decade from now post on SI and look back nostalgically at this time, not realizing the dystopian future in store for us.

<<I don't think they want more than Crimea & Donbas>>>

Midway through the long Peloponnesian war, Athenian negotiators told the Melian reps why they must surrender their small city state:

Right, as the world goes, is only in question
between equals in power, while the strong do
what they can and the weak suffer what they
must"

The full dialog is well worth reading. When the Melians, a small unimportant part in a vast conflict, declined to submit, the Athenians killed every adult male and sold women and children into slavery.

This has been repeated in the history of man thousands of times. Why do you believe Putin and HIS Russians are different?
