Well, another bad week for the market.

If are a listener of Marketplace on NPR, you will understand the referent if I say that this week was pretty much one for the “sad trombones” all around, but particularly for biotechs. A drop in the NASDAQ Composite of -3.8% for the week doesn’t sound great, but if schadenfreude is your thing, then looking at the two biotech indices we track, down -6.2% and -9%, would do the job.

The big winner for the individual stocks, VLON, up 69% for the week, sounds terrific, but not if you knew that it's coming off a YTD performance of -78% in the red last week, so this big move took it from the 3rd worst performer for the YTD to 23rd worst (now -62% in the hole) out of all the stocks followed by the contestants.

Both the average and median portfolio turned in -8% returns for the week. Not surprisingly, with this kind of performance, we have returned to the state where all the portfolios are YTD losers, and it’s not even close. In the top 10 rankings, five portfolios positions are unchanged from the previous week, including numbers one and two. Ethan H returns to the list after only a one week absence.

Next week must be better, right?
