From the article just posted by Maverick on the news-only thread:

>>>Few in the industry expect the coming boom in 56K modem sales to last long. Communications companies are experimenting with other technologies for Internet connections -- including cable modems and digital subscriber lines -- that operate at much higher speeds. <<<

I knew the 56K hype of 1997 was a load of crap! I always considered that the 56K step was just another small step in a long line of successive advances in data communications speeds: 1.2, 2.4, 9.6, 14.4, 28.8, 33.6, 56, 128, etc... I mentioned last Fall that I thought 56K would be obsolete within 18 months.

<<shorting aol appears to be the opposite of following the falling knife theory of stocks. instead trying to short a stock that defies gravity must also have a term.>>

>>>How about: "Don't try to stop a rising rocket" or, given the thread that we are on: "Don't try to stop an ascending rocket<<<

I propose: "Don't try to sit on an ascending rocket!" ;o)
