The one proposal that made the most sense to me regarding Astan was the idea of bring back the King. He was in his 80's at the time and there was a crown prince son as I recall. At that point, you set up the Afgan army that is just around the capital and maybe a few airfields around the country. Set up warlords for the rest of the place to run it as you want. Maybe they show up once a year to "Kiss the Ring" while a CIA guy turns over a foot locker of cash as he gets on the helicopter for the ride home. The war lord runs into trouble, drones and air power show up to help him out. GB A teams and the ANA too. Makes more sense then what we did and would have been cheaper too.
