British National Killed in Ukraine, U.K. Government Says

The U.K. government said a British national has been killed in Ukraine and a second person is missing.

The BBC, citing sources in Ukraine, reported that the dead man was Scott Sibley, who along with the missing Briton was believed to be fighting for Ukraine forces in either Mariupol or elsewhere in Donbas.

A spokesperson for Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Officeconfirmed the death in a statement and said the families of those affected are being supported. The FCDO did not provide any further details.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has advised Britons against joining the war in Ukraine and in February urged U.K. nationals to leave the country. Britain’s travel advice has been to avoid Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
