Win, this is the Sports Illustrated story on the fight. Might be the best report on a single sports event i ever read.

Lawdy, Lawdy, He's Great

Personally, that fight was the only time that I paid to watch a closed circuit broadcast of an event. Went with two college buddies to the old Philadelphia Arena in West Philly. Despite the fact that Frazier was from Philly, the crowd was about 50-50 supporting both fighters, because Ali was special. I was mildly supporting Frazier (because I felt Ali had crossed a line in personal attacks pre-fight) , but I mostly wanted to see a good fight.

Boy, did i get one!

Ali started strong and his fans were up and cheering. Then Frazier surged in the middle rounds and his supporters were standing, yelling and bantering with the Ali folks. Finally, Ali won in the late rounds.

Fun night. I;ll bever see a fight like that again
