Check boxes, and other ideas that won't work.

I oppose the idea of the filter or kill-file. If we make it too easy to ignore contributors, the threads won't be threads anymore.

If they're implemented, I doubt I'd use them. I'm managing to read all of the threads I'm interested in... sometimes there are idiots, but you need to read them so you can understand what those who respond to them are saying. And sometimes even the idiots post useful info.

I never post off-topic (not true, but I want people). I'm never opinionated or derogatory, except maybe in the joke threads or something, where such things are allowed by charter. Check boxes for such probably won't work.

I've been trying to give every one of my posts a title, in the first line or the first few words. Saves a lot of trouble.... I recommend it to everyone.

Dick

My idea is to integrate the voting process into the next button. This way you can't avoid voting if you read by going through the list of posts with the next button. Of course you can't force the people to really think about it when clicking instead of always using the same button. Probably the best idea is to keep it simple and just use three buttons.

Next|<must read> Next|<average or I don't vote> Next|<stay away> (because it is outdated after 5 minutes like a real time quote or only of interest as answer to a very special question or just simply a bad or irrelevant post)

I think I was the first one that proposed to include preview links to the next few posts in my message Message 3294383

Technically it would be simple to implement the feature. The impact on the servers is not quite that clear. The database server will have more work to do because he has to load and process 5 records instead of 1 in the current implementation. The web server will have to send more information with each request because the links take up space. If the readers use the newfound reading efficiency to read more threads the servers will have more work. If they simply read faster by skipping posts the web servers will have to send out less.
