The Internet is breaking down these barriers to entry very quickly, as the current situation illustrates. Individuals will be both producers and consumers of news.

Loafer, very nice post. To further illustrate, I heard a report on CNBC yesterday that the major brokerages (Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearn, etc) are just beginning to make a foray into online investing. It is not their intention to "compete" on price, but wish to make online trading service "available" to their customers. They imply that they are lagging behind so that the E-Trades, AmeriTrades, etc. can work the "bugs" out of the system before they plan to participate on a significant level. I wonder what level of market share loss it will take for these dinosaurs to realize the financial market no longer exists as they know it? I think we see the main stream media exhibiting the same type of arrogance...We live in the information age, you'd think they'd get a clue.....Ultimately the consumer will come out on top, amazing how changes in the competitive landscape has that effect. bp

It is amusing to watch the media trying to get the public fired up about campaign finance reform. "The public is demanding it". Not working. It has never once for me come up as a topic in a spontaneous conversation with family, friends, or coworkers.

The mainstream media is losing it. Good riddance.
