>>>People won't stand for sound dropouts and distortion. Until bandwidth problems are worked out, internet phone service could leave a bad taste in early adapters mouths.<<<<

My very limited experience with 'Net phone wasn't that bad, many of the long time USRX followers may even remember when USR held a CC and put it out over the 'Net using Real Audio. It was Okay, but at 28.8 not good enough.

I've never had the chance to listen in with a connection faster than 28.8K, however, I do believe that a faster connection would improve it vastly...even one in the 43K or above range would most likely be acceptable.

It is my understanding the voice is way ahead of video or graphics (to slow)in becoming acceptable on the 'Net and is here and available for many LANs.

But what do I know...I just hammer nails in planks. <G>

Famous, perhaps the hardware will not be ready for prime time
but we 3COM stockholders are. The anouncement said:

Installation of 3Com's Total Control(TM) multi-service platforms
will begin this spring and continue with the planned installation
of 500 switches over the next 3 years.
Initial installation will
begin in Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan, the U.S.,
Switzerland and Hong Kong, with other countries in Europe, South
America and the Asia-Pacific region to follow. Investment for this
phase of the Global InterNetwork deployment will exceed $500 million.

This is soon enough to keep me happy.
