I would favor an open primary system of publicly funded elections for those crossing a line, say 4 or 5% voter interest via a mixed phone, internet outreach and ground-pounding poll conducted using statistically valid methods with both registered and yet-to-be registered who have no disqualification. Frankly, everyone should be registered automatically through ordinary daily living activities and checking a box that they are a citizen with a computerized follow-up and investigation only where the computer data trail was not convincing or evocative of fraud. This could be easily checked in an audit.

Currently, people won't register if a person of suitable interest is never in the running. People won't vote if their person isn't on the ballot. Parties are never going to implement my system because of seniority preferences and power structures, resistance by private campaign financing orgs, revolving doors for paid politicos, and the influence by the parties which act to veto anyone not kissing the party ring. Republicans would frame it as vote rigging by including people currently marginalized - those with drug arrests, traffic warrants, poverty, loss of residency, and questionable citizenship and Democrats would frame it as opening the door to extremists. While both of those are true-ish in rare-ish cases - it is never been shown to be the dominant dynamic and it would become less so with more transparency, participation and inclusion. Clearly such a system would increase the power of Democrats.

It is just the way it seems.

That is not realistic!

It is a nice sentiment, but it will not work as the Republican members are required to vote in lock step with McConnell or they are out!

Look at what happened to people who voted to impeach trump.

Until it becomes realistic, we have to do what it takes to win.

The political game right now is to stop the Republicans at all costs, just like it was to stop the Nazi's at all costs.

And the only way to do that is with the Democratic army. They are the only entity that has the power to stop the Republican juggernaut.

We should all be voting a straight Democratic ticket all the way down!

That's exactly why the Democrats have geriatrics in charge, and the Republicans have crazies. The power of the parties needs to be curbed. The candidates need to be picked from whoever is making the most sense regardless of how true they are to party leadership
