Andy, good post. That's what I tried to tell Twister earlier. He keeps harping about DEC/NT in '99, Merced will be coming, NT 8.0 will be born in '00, hark! hark!

The problem is, Sun's a moving target. I think IBM has more to worry about with Starfire than Sun has to worry about with NT. Another reason I look to the horizon and don't dismiss the mirage I see of an IBM/Sun merger. Sun's also an evolving target. We don't know yet which business segments will be the bread and butter in 2000. Certainly something big will happen with either Java apps or storage products or both.

Microsoft's supposed hegemony is all about mindshare. Nothing to trifle with to be sure, but I guess I am naive enough to believe that in the end product excellence and performance will win the day. That clearly belongs to Sun.
