I don't worry too much about the Taiwan issue yet. Although the Ukraine-Russia conflict turned out worse than I had hoped, there was some sense behind the escalation, as Putin was pushed into a potential Nato-conflict over Crimea were he had too fight for and/or potentially lose their vital Black Sea Fleet port at Sevastopol. Unless Taiwan does something stupid to push China into action, such as declaring independence, I see no reason or benefit for China to be the instigator of armed conflict. And, as far as I know, there is no clear popular majority in Taiwan for independence. I think the majority favours the status quo, according to latest polls. The pro-independence government may make noises though.
