We have the smartest idiot voters in the world.

I nearly got into a shouting match yesterday with a literal genius mathematician/composer after saying my trip for a failed windsurfing day would have cost $20 before the lower gas prices... but today it was "only 16 give or take." He took offense that I'd even look at it this way as if wasting $20 to not exercise while I could hike from home for free isn't a calculation we should be making. I commented it was much cheaper than a trip to Maui and having an off wind day...

Then he got into how it was the oil companies screwing us... and how their profits have tripled. I said they make far lower profits and far lower margins than Apple which "everyone loves" and "nobody" (but me) seems to mind getting gouged for the huge margins they get on their phones while the oil companies were losing money and the stocks went nowhere since I sold my last shares in 2010 and put the funds in SPY that is up over 4x... I asked if the companies were making so much money screwing us then why were they shit for investments?

I said people like me are to blame because we won't invest our capital in new wells because people like him will vote to take our profits with extra taxes aka "excess windfall profits" AND to make matters worse, won't let us deduct the cost of capital to drill the wells and pump the oil as that would be a "handout from tax payers."

I guess he didn't like me blaming HIM rather than Biden for the higher oil prices, but that is the plain and simple truth. Why buy an oil stock when there are so many clueless geniuses running around telling people they are being screwed by the oil companies?
