my impression related to populations on a bigger island or group of close islands that cooperate economically usually has the desire to manage their own business and oppose outside intervention. Examples abound. One example close to home is Cuba and the US or Trinidad and Venezuela. Neither country meaning the US has any territorial demands on Cuba, Venezuela on Trinidad, or India on Sri-Lanka Therefore to me is plain arrogance and imperialistic desires of nuts running the CCP demanding Taiwan to be part of China - based on what logic? It is no different than Russia claiming Ukraine with Crimea as their own
