Or even censuring the other party for supposed inappropriate behaviour. I'm an English Catholic, only 8% of the population are such in England. When I started working in Scotland a supervisor of Production would greet me each day with "Good Morning ... FTP ". An uncomplimentary term regarding the Pope. For the first year or two working together he assumed, me being English, I was naturally a Protestant. Although I was in a separate team, I was relatively speaking, senior to him. Later, at an appropriate moment I let him know I was a Catholic. Unperturbed he assumed I was an "English Catholic". Wrong. Mother was Irish, I have several hundred relatives in Southern Ireland , and I showed an application form for for Sinn Fein that one of my cousins has given me whilst I was in Dublin. "Oh"... quiet interlude. I told him his morning greeting was fine, and it was ... but not something I would say even though I have watched the Borgias starring Jeremy Irons. As well as that, the acronym could be misinterpreted as a personal insult. But nothing was changed on agreement. All this was normally observed daily by a good number of people too. But the daily greeting changed just by happenstance. "Good Morning". "Good Morning … FTP" A quizzical look from me. (this went on for years btw). "I'm sorry... who are you referring too??" "The Pope". "Oh, was thinking you might mean someone else?" "No, the Pope". "That’s OK then". Much to the hilarity of everyone. Thus the Catholics could be Catholics and the Protestants could be Protestants and we all did a great job. It was a tribal thing, quite important actually, and perfectly OK once ones ego didn't get in the way. I am just so glad I didn't go whining off to personnel about it which is the modern thing to do these days. I would only do something like that for theatrical and entertainment purposes only. The supervisor was not the first Scot with an adverse opinion of the Catholic religion btw. Some sharp minds have said things that are worse. Message 33947489 en.wikipedia.org Under the influence of the sermons of Christopher Goodman, he developed a strongly anti-papal reading, going as far as to say that the Pope was the Antichrist in some of his writings I’ll pass on that conclusion, but … for the record. I would prefer to do a complicated addition involving many significant figures and decimal places rather than a multiplication or … worse still, a long division -g- So China has deemed they are upset about certain events regarding Taiwan. Regrettable this should have occurred, but best let them be upset about it as long as they wish. Yeah, regarding the political correctness movement types. If it was my decision, I would get all those people to put those statues back where they belong. Make them use their own resources and expense to do so too, and make sure it was put back exactly as before. What happened in past times is real human history and all those people are not to be judged by the likes of us. We can perhaps attempt to do better but that is all we can do. They are reminders of how humans are fallible, all of us. They are great examples for all to see. You don't hide such problems as they can too easily reoccur. Keep em out where they are visible is my way of dealing with it. imho -g-
