I agree!
I would have preferred expansion of existing programs. Peace Corps, teaching in rural/urban areas, etc.

Also, why not get the government out of making loans for education and make the schools responsible? They would have incentive to teach skills that pay a salary that would support paying back the loans. IF you want kids to do public service, join the military and get the education paid for on the GI Bill or something.

Here is CA if you study hard in high school and qualify with good grades for the University of California AND are low income, the tuition is paid for even if you are here illegally. Taxpayers here have already paid a lot for college education of the low income students.
Still, it does free up money to go into the economy.
That is what printing money and throwing it from helicopters does... and it ALSO pours gasoline on the inflation fire.

With CPI-U at 8.5%, this is the WORST TIME possible to do this.

Also

What next?

What about losers who max out their credit cards to make "one last wager to get ahead" on Draft Kings or other "legal" money grubbing institutions that are not that different from some of these "schools?"

Who is to say someone who made a bad decision to borrow money that they can't pay back with the education they got with that money decides to make other bad decisions?
