Wo!

Overall VLSI does not have better technology! Trust me on this!

But that's beside the point. VLSI has a nicer business model now that they have started "outsourcing" their capacity. That should result in a nicer ROE and some good earnings down the road.

----

I own LSI and they are very very good.

In talks with the company, LSI does not mention VLSI as a competitor. LSI's competitors are IBM and LU.

VLSI on the other hand does look at LSI as a competitor.

----

VLSI you are absolutely right will do well in communications.

BUT LSI will do well in consumer electronics and networking and storage. Just look at the new customers and design win momentum at LSI and you'll realize that your comments are misguided.

LSI got caught because they were taking too long with their high density designs because the tools vendors had "crappy" tools. Also DVD has been slow.

---

VLSI does have the 0.20u capacity coming on sometime soon.

And this should place them up there amongst the leaders.

But let me just remind everyone that having leading edge capacity means nothing unless it can be put to use! That was part of LSI's problem. Their fabs were idle for awhile there.

----

Any way back to VLSI - they are in good shape, they do a better job buying back shares, they have a good lead in communications and comm. should lead them into the promised land for several years in the future.

Part of VLSI's problem is guilt of association with the OLD PC-chipset-VLSI. Over time that too will diminish.

----

There was an article in Barron's recently where Scott Black made a small comment about VLSI and it was not good! He likes LSI. I'll post it here if I can get it.

Found it:

(BTW I don't think you need to be leading edge to make money!!! In fact sometimes it's better to be a step behind. Things are cheaper...)

----

But to reiterate my main point don't give up on VLSI! It'll do fine!
