>>15,000 years as barbarians

Only 15,000 years? When did it stop and what is the evidence for a fundamental change?

  • Nuclear weapons aimed against primarily civilian targets are barbaric.
  • Cluster bombs?
  • Nerve gas?

Not one of these is selective for "the enemy". They are weapons of terror invented by people who would call themselves "civilized" compared to those who didn't have them, whom they characterized as "uncivilized" (or barbaric).

Even the term "barbarian" was relative to Rome. But I'd counter that it takes one to know one. And Romans certainly knew and celebrated barbarity.

History and the present only have pockets of genteel people living amongst a majority that aren't.
