The oil companies and the GOP have their eggs in the technology of the industrial revolution. This is the equivalent of the buggy-whip makers of a hundred years ago. The technology companies of the information age are the paradigm of the future, a future in which petroleum based machinery and centralized control are relegated to the county fairs and nostalgia collectors.
