An acquisition and a pandemic saw II-VI fall 64%
Then it did well integrating Finisar quicker than expected and made a record high near $100 around the time it announced the acquisition of Coherent.
Now we have fear of an "I did that" recession pushing it down 60%...
I added some last week to my ROTH and have a small gain... but I sure have deep sea nets for more lower, but I also have a fairly sizeable position already (with a cost basis I believe of $19.50ish...)
I've been using the volatility to add to share count...

COHERENT WINS ECOC 2022 AWARD FOR OPTICAL INTEGRATION WITH 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD-DCO TRANSCEIVER
Coherent Corp. (Nasdaq: COHR), a leader in optical communications transceivers, today announced that its 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD-DCO transceiver has won the 2022 ECOC Exhibition Industry Award for Optical Integration.

The 400G ZR+ transceiver’s high transmit output power of 0 dBm enables true IP-over-DWDM deployments in metro and regional optical transport networks, eliminating an entire layer of optical equipment and thereby significantly reducing both capital and operational expenditures for network operators.

“This award for optical integration speaks to our ability to transform line cards into industry-standard pluggable modules,” said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Chief Marketing Officer. “The availability of 400G with such high output power in a QSFP-DD form factor is a game-changer due to its compatibility with router interfaces. Now, service providers can connect routers directly to access, metro, and regional optical transport networks without client interfaces. This IP-over-DWDM network architecture achieves huge savings in upfront costs and ongoing expenses.”

The 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD-DCO transceiver is based on advanced proprietary indium phosphide technology, which is an intrinsic enabler of the transceiver’s 0 dBm output power. Furthermore, indium phosphide components consume a low enough amount of power to be suitable for the small QSFP-DD form factor.

In March 2022, Windstream Wholesale announced that it successfully completed field trials using the 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD-DCO transceiver from Coherent. The trial was conducted over a 1000 km link between Phoenix and Los Angeles. Windstream also demonstrated transmission over up to 24 cascaded reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs) in a lab environment.

Coherent is showcasing the 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD-DCO transceiver in a live demonstration this week at ECOC 2022 in Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Gert Sarlet, Director of Product Management, will present a talk at ECOC’s Market Focus titled “Coherent Optics in Client Pluggable Form Factor Enables IP-over-DWDM in Disaggregated Transport Networks” on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 11:35-11:55 CEST.

You were right to wait. I prefer to scale in just as I like to scale out taking more and more profits as markets make new records or have 20% relief rallies like we did from the June low. I had some giggle (GOOGL) drop into my net today and it closed up but I'll not count my chickens yet...

What do you think of this oscillator chart?

What I hate about Microsoft is they keep effing with their software and force us to use the "updates" so features I learn to use vanish or move around... it used to be easy to bring text boxes and lines to the front but I haven't figured out how to do it yet... and the bastards want me to upgrade to Windows 11 but the crappy OS took out toolbars so it would cost me hundreds of extra clicks and much time every day.... but that is another rant.

I have more charts like this here:

If I look ahead, it is possible that I'll be able to turn the dashed blue line into a dashed-green line as early as next Tuesday (turnaround Suzie!) But if Ms. Mkt wants to inject more pain... the short term chart at the link to my blog posts gives an idea of how long that could last...

A new low in the SPX.

I expect some entertaining spin from the perma bulls who missed yet another call.

A lower close today on lower volume IS considered bullish for a major rally by some forms of TA... but I'm not sure that is valid after such a large rally and failure.

I keep nibbling at these resistance points, and got some nice gains on what I bought in June and took profits into the August high... but overall the buying on the dips has left some bloody fingers.

Interesting news from Apple, which is down 3.25% while SPY is up 0.58%

Lower volume but higher ASPs might keep total sales flat...

My Samsung Galaxy S22, the smallest of their newest phones, is 6.1" and I can't see how people want larger phones as this is too big to fit in some of my zippered pockets already. I'm used to it and love the camera that has the option to go full screen to 1x1 aspect ratio...EASILY. I use both as you can see with the shot of my GPS record after windsurfing next to shots taken with a wider aspect ratio.

Shipments of iPhone 14 family to reach around 80 million units in 2022, says DIGITIMES Research

Overall shipments of the four iPhone 14 models in 2022 are expected to reach between 78-83 million units with production volumes to arrive at 83-88 million units, weaker than those of the iPhone 13 series in 2021, according to DIGITIMES Research's latest smartphone figures.

Apple has expanding the gap between the iPhone 14 series and the iPhone 14 Pro series in terms of hardware specifications and functionalities in a bid to boost the shipment share of the higher-end smartphones, thus improving its revenue performance in 2022.

With a weak global economy, overall smartphone demand has been shrinking. Although Apple is pushing to maintain its 2022 sales volumes at a level similar to that in 2021, it is looking to increase sales for the higher-end product line.

Apple's strategy is expected to undermine demand for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.

Apple launched a total of four new iPhones: the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Plus is meant to replace the iPhone 13 mini. The other three smartphones all shared the same launching prices as their iPhone 13 counterparts.

With the iPhone 14 Plus being priced US$200 higher than the iPhone 13 mini and the fact that the iPhone 14 Pro series has witnessed stronger pre-orders than the regular iPhone 14 and 14 Plus smartphones, the overall ASP for the iPhone 14 family will be higher than for the iPhone 13 family.
