Some of both. There is always double booking to deal with and it usually shows up when demand falls. If demand is high, buyers can afford to keep their own supply lines full with some redundancy to handle bottlenecks.

The fear of recessions is they have negative feedback... lower demand means factories need fewer workers and Apple needs fewer sales associates and Amazon needs less warehouse space and workers.... those workers have even less money to buy with inflation and they also save money in case they lose their jobs after they see hiring freezes.
