Has anyone here actually bought JBuilder and tried to use it for a real project??? I have been using it for several weeks, and have not been impressed. JBuilder crashes frequently, furthermore, it does not save files when it compiles, so if you are not careful to contently save your changes, you lose your current changes if JBuilder dies while debugging.

I have been working in VC++ since it first came out and I see some basic things convenient things that VC++ has that are lacking in JBuilder. I am very use to putting the cursor on a class name in the code and pressing F1 to pull up the help for the class, this can't be done in JBuilder, or if it can, it is done in some non standard way.

I downloaded the JBuiler patch from Borland's web site and it has not helped.

I was also horrified to hear that C++ Builder puts up a modal dialog when compiling - there is no excuse for that. The C++ project I work on has 180 modules and takes about 4 minutes to compile (VC++, 300Mhz machine with 128MB RAM). I fix errors as they popup during a compile while the rest of the project continues to compile - I don't just sit around for 4 minutes and wait - BORL should be shot for this mistake.

BTW - I was at the Microsoft PDC when BORL presented C++ Builder, Delphi and JBuilder, The presentation was not bad, however - the BORL guys were introduced by a former BORL employee who had defected to Microsoft, who came out on stage holding a toilet plunger - he did not look happy. The analogy was suppose to be "Microsoft provides the plumming and standards", and BORL provide great tools to work with Microsofts stuff. That was just a few days after the lawsuit was settled. BORL got to do their presentation at microsoft's convention, but Microsoft got them back with the "toilet plunger" - I couldn't stop laughing.

Anyway, not to say I don't like BORL, the LOBAB I bought at $2 has moved up 50% in the past week. I am just questioning the strength of some of these products.

Any comments from actual JBuilder users, reguarding the product??? Anyone else having crashing problems??

JV...

That glib attitude is not going to solve the problem.

That's funny! How many problems has your attitude solved, Rod?
